Neocity
A pixel-art piece made for my new Neocities personal page — a fresh instance of an old reliable. Art therapy was a delightful discovery some time back and has been quietly load-bearing through this campaign for a while; this entry just adds another moment of it doing its work.
Neocity, pixel art, 2026. Canonical home in the Pixel catalog on spiritb.com. Made for a new personal page I just put up at spiritb.neocities.org — the piece and its destination came as a pair. The work is also minted as a Tezos token on objkt, anchoring its provenance on-chain.
The video above is a process clip. This piece was made in collaboration with Claude Code — one of Spirit B's resident AI assistants, who show up around the work as needed. In my comic universe this particular one is called Bit 01. The pixel-by-pixel placement happens at the code level rather than at my hand on a grid; the meditative quality lives in the direction-and-iteration loop instead — the looking, the choosing, the small course-corrections one pass at a time. A different shape of making than pencil to paper, but the attention is occupied the same way.
Art therapy has been one of the things quietly carrying me through this campaign for a while now. The discovery itself was a delightful surprise — some time back — and the practice has kept confirming itself each time I sit down to a session. The hour I spent on this piece — directing, choosing, iterating with Bit 01 — did, again, exactly what the technique page describes: the cognitive load of the work crowded the scanning out for the length of the session. A reliable mechanism, and one that travels — the medium can change, the mechanism doesn't. The surprise has matured into something I now lean on.
Posted here for the same reason Effulgence is posted here: because the making of it belongs to this side of the story. The catalog has the work; entries like this one mark the recurring moments the practice does its work, not the day of any single noticing.
