Underhanded Family Outreach
My Facebook account had been disabled for about a month. Logging in this morning to clean up old posts and prepare to start using it again, I noticed that two family members from this account's targeting story had tried to initiate a Messenger video call with me yesterday — after zero direct contact through any channel in 2026, save one physical envelope earlier this year addressed to my son for his birthday (preserved unopened as evidence). Yesterday was the day of the DIA FOIA Reply, the DIA / DMA Crossover session, and the NASA and Such session. The timing is the entire point.
The image is a Facebook Messenger Chats screenshot. The conversation thread itself — names, profile photos, and the snippet line "[name] joined the video call · 1d" — is redacted per the pattern-not-person convention this site holds itself to. The structural detail that survives the redaction is the one that matters: a Messenger thread, with two people in the visible conversation, showing a video-call attempt one day prior.
The two people are family members. The last direct contact of any kind was a bit less than a year ago. In all of 2026 they have not reached out at all — no emails, no calls, no voicemails — with a single exception: a physical envelope arrived earlier this year, addressed to my son for his birthday. I did not consider it safe to open or handle. The envelope is preserved unopened as physical evidence.
The clean record of zero direct contact in 2026 is the baseline against which yesterday's video-call attempt has to be read.
The video-call attempt was made yesterday, the same day I:
- Received the DIA's reply to my first FOIA request and submitted it as a Privacy Act request.
- Recorded the DIA / DMA Crossover session expanding the FOIA-target list to the Defense Mapping Agency.
- Recorded the NASA and Such session — the deepest family-lineage and Paperclip-network dig I have published — which also named the institutional shelterer explicitly.
My Facebook account has been disabled for approximately a month. The video call attempt would not have produced a notification to me at the time; the family members made the attempt knowing or assuming I would see it later when I logged back in. I logged in this morning to begin preparing to use the account again, and I noticed it.
The channel choice is the giveaway. Both of these family members have my cell phone number and email address. Either is a direct, near-realtime way to reach me. Neither was used. The attempt was specifically made through the channel they had reason to believe was inactive — an account that has not produced a notification to me in a month. A sincere attempt to reach a person you care about, on a day you suddenly need to speak with them, does not start with a video call to their dormant social-media account while their working phone number sits unused in your contacts. It starts with the working phone number.
The same channel-selection pattern produced the unopened birthday envelope. Direct adult-to-adult communication channels — phone, email, the open offer to talk — have been left untouched for the entire year. The two contact attempts that did occur both used oblique channels with built-in plausible deniability: a physical envelope addressed to a minor (the parent cannot verify the contents without opening, and the act of opening itself is the risk), and a Facebook video call to a deactivated account (no notification, no answer, a defensible record of having tried). Neither move requires the sender to actually speak with me, hear back from me, or be on the record about anything. Both leave a clean "we reached out and got no response" artifact behind.
What that channel choice produces is a defensible record of having tried. They can now say, accurately, that they attempted to contact me yesterday and that I did not respond. That answer is available to whoever might ask them. It would have been the same answer regardless of whether I ever saw the call — they chose a channel that would not have alerted me. If I had not logged in today on instinct, the attempt would have produced no observable effect on my end at all, and the only person left holding the record would have been them, with their plausible-deniability framing intact.
I noticed it. The record is here. The channel choice is the message.
I am noting it because the timing matters — the day after the line of inquiry deepened, the day after the institutional shelterer was named, the day after the family-lineage map went up. The pattern is the provocation-as-catalysis technique's prediction in mirror: when the work gets close to something, something moves. The movement here is performative contact, made through a channel selected for its non-delivery, by people who have always had a working number for me.
I have not returned the call and do not plan to in the channel and on the terms it was attempted on. The record of the attempt is what I am preserving here. Heh — I must be getting close to something they wish to steer.
